Join star cellist Tim Lowe and pianist Warren Mailley-Smith on a journey through the life of the cello and piano duo.  The concert begins with Beethoven’s Judas Maccabaeus Variations.  Beethoven, a wonderful pianist himself, shares the themes and interest in these variations between both instruments.  The piano dominates in these fresh and vibrant variations, and the theme is quite recognisable.

The concert continues with Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, a staple of the cello and piano duo repertoire. Originally written for horn and piano, these pieces shine on the cello and are full of Schumann’s wonderful colours and magical sound world. Always a favourite with audiences and performers alike, the concert finishes with the epic Rachmaninov sonata for cello and piano. This piece is described by many pianists as more difficult than his piano concertos. There are an unbelievable amount of notes and an incredible array of excitement in the piano and many gorgeously lyrical tunes for the cello.
